Series: Industry 101
Despite expansive growth in pediatric dermatology, the number of board-certified pediatric dermatologists remains devastatingly small. The number of pediatric dermatologists conducting research is even smaller, and the number with comfort partnering with industry or participating in clinical trials is smaller still.
To address this issue, PeDRA created Industry 101, a 5-part podcast series of expert-led discussions presenting perspectives from industry partners, PeDRA members, and leaders on how to better understand industry and facilitate meaningful engagement between academic clinician-scientists and industry partners. Hosted by Harper Price, MD, experts will discuss a variety of topics from clinical trials and investigator-initiated studies to conflicts of interest and strategies for working with large and small companies.
This new series kicks off with Episode 1: Intro to Industry with the series’ chair, Harper Price, MD. Discover how Dr. Price’s creative energy and passion for helping patients are the reasons she partners with industry and leads clinical trials. The episode wraps up with questions from a live studio audience and a preview of what’s ahead in the Industry 101 series.
Episode 2: Clinical Trials – Listen to Dr. Harper Price and Dr. Lee Zane discuss Dr. Zane’s unique experience in academic research as well as pharma. Dr. Zane shares his insights on everything from the keys to designing a good clinical trial to forming research questions that are valuable to achieving both clinical and industry regulatory goals.
Industry 101 is back with Episode 3: Working with Large and Small Pharma. In this episode, Dr. Harper Price discusses the differences between companies with special guests Dr. Michael Howell and Dr. Jim Lee. Listen to discover insightful strategies for networking with both large and small companies and learn how the differences between companies are not so vast after all.
In Episode 4: Investigator-Initiated Studies, Dr. Harper Price facilitates a dynamic conversation alongside Beth Drolet, MD, and Michael Howell, PhD, exploring the significance of investigator-initiated studies. They delve into the reasons behind its importance and provide insights on when and how to initiate such studies. The discussion emphasizes that collaborating with industry and spearheading a study can be a manageable and rewarding experience, dispelling any apprehensions.
In our final Industry 101 episode we explore the vital role of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in shaping industry trends, innovations, and healthcare practices. In this podcast we delve deep into the qualities industry is looking for in a KOL, why they are important, how to resolve conflicts when they arise, and what early investigators can do now to position themselves to become KOLS. Whether you’re a healthcare professional, industry insider, or simply curious about the inner workings of the pharmaceutical world, you’ll want to tune in to gain actionable insights, and a deeper understanding of the pivotal role KOLs play in driving progress and innovation in the field.
