PeDRA Launches Two New Grant Programs and Announces 2024 EIRG Recipients
November 5, 2024 – In collaboration with its partners, PeDRA is thrilled to announce the launch of two new competitive grant programs and to recognize the recipients of the Emerging Investigator Research Grants Program from the September cycle.
Together with the Arthritis National Research Foundation (ANRF), PeDRA has opened applications for the Rheum for Kids: Pediatric Skin and Joint Grant, a funding opportunity designed to support early-career researchers in advancing innovative projects in pediatric dermatology and pediatric rheumatology. With this grant, ANRF and PeDRA seek to foster cross-disciplinary research teams to drive impactful studies. Applications are due by Friday, January 24, 2025.
PeDRA and the Foundation for Ichthyosis & Related Skin Types (FIRST) are also collaborating to fund studies through the Pediatric Ichthyosis Challenge Grant. This grant aims to support high-impact research focused on pediatric ichthyosis and related conditions, targeting advancements that address the unique challenges faced by affected children and their families. Applications are due by Friday, January 24, 2025.
Finally, the 2024 Emerging Investigator Research Grants (ERIG) program concludes with six September cycle awardees. The program offered three application cycles, in March, June, and September, calling for proposals from medical students or pediatric residents to conduct four-to-twelve-week mentored projects, either remotely or in person. Awardees received a budget to cover project and living expenses and a stipend to attend the 2024 PeDRA Annual Conference. 2024 September EIRGs
- Alicia Edwards from Howard University College of Medicine will conduct a remote project titled, “Investigating the Prevalence of Inborn Errors of Immunity and Treatment Responses in Pediatric Alopecia Areata: A Multi-Site Study” under the mentorship of Leslie Castelo-Soccio, MD, PhD at National Institutes of Health.
- Radhika Gupta, BS from Perelman School of Medicine will conduct an in-person project titled, “Generative AI Tools: Evaluating Ways to Automate Your SALT (GATEWAYS) Scoring of Alopecia” under the mentorship of Albert Yan, MD at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
- Elyse Mackenzie, BS from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School will conduct a remote project titled, “Keeping up with Gen Z: Identifying and Validating Impactful Skincare Trends in Pediatric Dermatology” under the mentorship of Emily Gorell, DO at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical School.
- Santanna Patterson from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health will conduct an in-person project titled, “Genetic Characterization and Phenotypic Correlation of Severe Blistering Mucocutaneous Reactions” under the mentorship of Beth Drolet, MD at University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
- Carly Stevens, MD from Tulane University will conduct a remote project titled, “Enhancing Shared Decision Making in Pediatric Dermatology: Developing and Pilot Testing a Decision Aid for Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment” under the mentorship of Carrie Coughlin, MD, MPHS at Washington University in St. Louis.
- Joy Xu from UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine will conduct a remote project titled, “An Analysis of Local Treatment Avenues for Cutaneous and Mucocutaneous Leishmaniasis: A Systematic Review & Meta-Analysis” under the mentorship of Jonathan Glass, MD at Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine.
