Overview:
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a skin condition where painful boils repeatedly form in areas of friction. Over time, scarring and tunnels underneath the skin can form. If is often misdiagnosed as infection, and patients may experience delays of several years before getting the right diagnosis. Puberty is often a time when these symptoms first appear. As kids take over their own healthcare, there are challenges for both patients and parents to ensure a smooth transition. This study will use video interviews with patients and their parents to ask them about what is important to them and what challenges they face during this transition. We will look at things like how bad their HS is, and whether their parent has HS, to see if it affects this transition. With this information, we will make a video series to guide kids with HS and their parents through transitioning to adult healthcare.
