Overview

Atopic dermatitis, or eczema, is a skin disease that affects many children and can cause problems for their physical and mental health. It is important for doctors to understand how eczema affects children and their families directly, without interpretation by a clinician. Patient-Oriented Outcomes (PROs), or reports from patients about their own health condition, allow physicians to gain a better understanding of the full experience of eczema. New treatments are emerging for eczema, and up to one-third of children need systemic medication. This proposal aims to identify how children with severe eczema experience their condition and how patients/caregivers make decisions about treatment. We will conduct a study of children with moderate-to-severe eczema to determine how systemic therapies affect their experience and understand how PROs influence treatment decision-making. Our goal is to improve patient-centered care and treatment for children with AD.
