Overview
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common chronic skin disease affecting children and has significant impact on physical, mental and social health. However, AD often has more profound effects on patients than what can be captured by objective assessments of disease severity alone. Therefore, patient-reported outcomes, which directly report the patients’ perceptions of their health condition, are essential for understanding the full experience of AD in children and their caregivers. Although measures for many patient-reported outcomes now exist, their use in routine AD care remains limited. Thus, this study aims to examine the feasibility and acceptability of using patient-reported outcome assessments as part of routine visits for children with AD; explore the performance and response of patient-reported outcomes among pediatric patients receiving systemic treatments for AD; and identify patient/caregiver and provider preferences for the integration of patient-reported outcomes into pediatric AD care.
