Overview
Psoriasis (PsO) is a chronic immune-mediated skin disorder associated with increased cardiovascular (CV) and metabolic risk in adults and children. Advancements in ultrasound technology has made detection of early CV abnormalities possible, but evidence of early CV disease has not been sought in children and adolescents with PsO. We will perform a pilot study to test the ability of new ultrasound technology in conjunction with skin tape and serum biomarkers to detect early CV and metabolic disease in children with PsO. We hypothesize that children with moderate-to-severe PsO will have early signs of CV dysfunction on imaging and as measured via skin tape and serum biomarkers. The proposed pilot studies provide the basis for multi-center studies to find targetable risk pathways and novel detection modalities of potentially reversible early CV and metabolic dysfunction in pediatric PsO patients.
