Overview:

Atopic dermatitis (eczema) is the most common chronic skin disease in children and disproportionately affects racial and ethnic minority groups. Over 40% of children with eczema have tried complementary and alternative medicine, even though it is infrequently prescribed by healthcare providers. This study aims to understand the use, beliefs and references, and perceived benefit by caregivers for non-pharmacologic treatments for eczema in children. We will explore factors, such as cost and ease of use, that may influence patients’ choices to use these treatments. Our goal is to use this information to improve shared decision making between care providers and patient families and create culturally ensitive educational resources to help families make informed eczema care decisions.
