Toward Consensus in Pediatric Androgenetic Alopecia: A Delphi Study
Northwestern University
Stanford University
Overview:
Some children experience gradual hair thinning called androgenetic alopecia, which is often overlooked and diagnosed late. Early treatment may help slow or stop hair loss, but clear guidance for diagnosing and managing this condition in children is lacking. This project will address this gap by bringing together a national group of experts to develop consensus-based recommendations for care. Specialists in pediatric dermatology and endocrinology will review and rate statements about how to diagnose and treat this condition. Statements that most experts agree on will be accepted, while others will be revised and reconsidered. These recommendations will cover how to evaluate hair loss, including physical examination and testing, as well as treatment options. The project will also develop educational materials to help patients and families better understand the condition and what to expect, with the goal of improving care and outcomes for affected children.
