Dr. Denise Metry Raises Over $22K to Advance PHACE and LUMBAR Research

April 25, 2025 – Earlier this week, Dr. Denise Metry crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon to raise funds for research on PHACE and LUMBAR syndromes.

In partnership with the PHACE Syndrome Community, PeDRA was proud to support Dr. Metry’s mission to advance pediatric dermatology research—and we are so grateful for her incredible dedication to this cause.

Below is Dr. Metry’s recap of race day:

“It was a beautiful day to run, with the incredible Boston spectators showing up in full force—cheering non-stop from start to finish. I drew so much energy from them and spent the miles reflecting on the past ten years, all that’s changed, and everything I’m grateful for: the people I’ve known and loved, the challenges overcome, and the many gifts life has given me.

Like any marathon (and like life), there were painful, difficult moments—but I kept coming back to those thoughts of gratitude and community, which carried me through. It was definitely an emotional and unforgettable day.

A highlight? Finishing the race and seeing my son, Benjy, who sweetly offered to draw me a bath and order dinner from the hotel before I had to head straight to the airport for Paris—what 17-year-old says that? They really do grow up.

My husband Kevin also celebrated an incredible milestone, earning his “6 Star” medal for completing all six major marathons! I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the kind and generous support from friends, family, PHACE and LUMBAR families, PeDRA, and the PHACE Syndrome Community. I’m so excited about the impact this fundraising will have on future PHACE/LUMBAR research.”

Congratulations, Dr. Metry—and thank you for running with heart and purpose. We appreciate your commitment to supporting our mission and furthering pediatric dermatology research!
