Camp Navigator: A Pilot Implementation Study to Improve Access to Camp Discovery
UT Houston
University of Texas at Austin
Overview:
Camp Discovery is a free summer camp for children ages 8–16 with chronic skin conditions. Camp offers friendship and community, where children connect with peers who understand their experiences, often leading to improved confidence and reduced isolation. However, many eligible families never learn about the program or face barriers to sending their child to camp. The Camp Navigator Program is a project designed to help dermatology providers and families learn about and participate in camp. We will use family education materials and help families complete camp applications, thereby increasing camp attendance. We will measure the number of eligible patients identified, the number of families who engage with navigation, the number of applications completed, and the number of children who attend camp. We will also examine whether camp participation is associated with improved quality of life for the campers.
