Overview
Alopecia areata (AA) is a devastating visible hair disorder that affects patient quality of life, especially those in the pediatric population. Dr. Brittany Craiglow has developed a multi-pronged approach that successfully combats AA at its roots. Uniquely, she utilizes oral minoxidil in the pediatric population, to augment other established oral and pharmacologic medications for AA treatment. Under Dr. Craiglow’s mentorship and expertise, we aim to do a retrospective chart review on her patient cohort of 200+ pediatric patients who have been prescribed oral minoxidil as part of this multi-pronged treatment approach to combat AA. Since oral minoxidil treatment is currently underexplored in the pediatric population, the results of this review have significant potential to change the landscape of pediatric alopecia treatment, explore minoxidil safety profiles and success rates, and benefit pediatric alopecia patients.
