2020 Annual Report

2020 was a year full of challenges, but PeDRA made an impact thanks to the shared dedication of its members, partners, staff and volunteers to create, inspire, and sustain research to prevent, treat, and cure childhood skin disease.

President’s Message

Dear Friends,

For so many reasons, 2020 was an extremely challenging year for people and organizations around the globe. Despite these unprecedented times, I am proud to say that the PeDRA community stayed strong and, by nearly every metric ended up having its best year ever. Our ability to maintain a track of stability and growth during uncertain times speaks to the importance of the work we do, the commitment of our members and supporters, and the unwavering perseverance of the patients and families whom we serve through research and collaboration. Throughout 2020, I was constantly reminded of how we stand together as a strong community of scientists serving an even stronger community of children with skin diseases. Faced with a pandemic, social and political turmoil, and devastating forest fires every fiber of the PeDRA fabric became more resolute. PeDRA was built on qualities of perseverance, creativity, collaboration, dedication, and focus—these fundamental aspirations were a guiding light for the organization through a dark and challenging year.

Please spend some time exploring these highlights of PeDRA’s 2020. The numbers may be impressive on their own but consider this—compared to 2019, PeDRA’s membership increased by more than 35%, PeDRA’s investment in grants and awards increased by more than 65%, the number of attendees at the PeDRA Annual Conference increased by 88%, and the number of PeDRA publications increased by 100%. We are making substantial investments in our field and beginning to see some of the real impacts of these efforts.

I look forward to your continued support and commitment in 2021 and genuinely hope that we are all able to see one another in person before the New Year rolls around.

Most Sincerely,

Ilona Frieden, MD
University of California San Francisco
PeDRA President
