About the Program
Mentorship is a long-revered tradition at PeDRA. Since the program’s inception in 2015, 136 PeDRA mentors have supported nearly 200 mentees. While grounded in research, PeDRA’s Mentorship Program offers flexibility for mentees and mentors to work through challenges that matter to them as individuals. Nurturing the next generation of pediatric dermatology investigators is a crucial component of moving research in the field forward.
To participate in the program, PeDRA requires a minimum of three (3) check-ins throughout the mentorship term, either in-person or by phone. Additionally, PeDRA staff are available to offer support and lead additional activities, including virtual Mentorship Mingles throughout the year.
Please note that the PeDRA Mentorship Program does not offer mentoring on matching into dermatology or pediatrics residencies, nor does it guarantee a research project for mentees. The PeDRA Mentorship Program is focused on building pediatric dermatology research knowledge and skills.
The ratio of mentees to mentors for the upcoming program will be:
- 54 medical students for a 3:1 match
- 10 residents/interns/transitional year trainees for a 1:1 match
- 10 pediatric dermatology clinical fellows for a 1:1 match
- 15 early-to-mid-career investigators for a 1:1 match
The 2024-2025 PeDRA Mentorship Program has two options for mentees to select from. Mentees may apply for the traditional PeDRA mentorship option of 1:1 pairing (or 3:1 pairing for medical students). In the traditional program, mentors and mentees have the flexibility to discuss a variety of topics. Alternatively, clinical fellows or those who have completed training may apply to be a part of a small disease-specific group (3 mentees maximum) focused strictly on mentorship within the following disease areas: Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) or Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). Applicants should indicate their interest in this mentorship track in the application.
